CNA Certification In Ohio


Are you thinking of going back to school to advance your education into a potentially lucrative and rewarding career? Then you can consider joining Ohio CNA classes which are designed to help interested candidates become certified nursing assistants competent enough to tackle the job as nursing aides. As long as you are 18 years or age and above, you qualify to undertake the course as a nursing assistant in Ohio, plus of course you must be having a clean criminal record, a clean bill of health, and you must be in possession of at least a high school diploma or its equivalent.

A CNAs job description is to work hand in hand with nurses and doctors to provide maximum level of care and attention to patients. As the medical health care field continues to expand at a rapid rate, a CNA, otherwise referred to as a Certified Nurse Aide or a patient care technician is in high demand seeing as it is they play a significant role in direct patient care.

Some of the responsibilities that CNAs are tasked with include:

-        Enlightening patients and the community at large on preventive care methods and techniques

-        Feeding disabled patients and preparing them for treatment

-        Recording the medical history of patients

-        Taking and recording vital signs of patients

In order to be certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Ohio, you are expected to complete a minimum of 75 hours of classroom coursework and over 100 hours of hands on clinical experience. After completing the coursework you will be expected to sit and pass the CNA examination and upon successful completion you will be conferred with your licensee to practice as a certified nursing assistant. Note that admission requirements though will vary from one school to another but after completing the process; you will then be listed in the Ohio Nurse Aide registry. A typical coursework lasts for about 3-6 months depending on the institution in which you are training in but generally you must cover 175-180 hours of combined class work and supervised clinical practice.

Requirements for certification

-        Clean criminal record check

-        Proof of high school diploma or basically GED

-        Proof of immunization and a negative TB test done within the past 6 months

-        Two passport size photographs

-        Clean bill of health so you don’t pose a health hazard to the patients and people you will be working with

-        Two fingerprint cards
